What to Look for in Web Hosting Reviews

Many of us are highly dependent on the internet .  Many people use the internet not just for personal communication but also for making many other aspects of life easier .  Some people use the internet for banking and commerce; some use it for academics and research while other people, of course, use it for gaming and entertainment .  Needless to say, the internet is one indispensable thing in the modern times and having a website is almost expected from every modern person .  Now, if an individual intends to have his own site, one of the most basic requirements is to choose a good web hosting service .  The good thing is that there are a lot of web services around and a simple search online can lead you to a handful of great deals .  But of course, you would only have to choose one if you are only going to set up one website .  The smart thing to do is to read around host service reviews so you can have good idea on what you are going to get each month .

Here are some important pointers to remember when searching for a hosting company and when reading web host service reviews .

Price

All website owners should care for the price of the web host service he pays per month .  This is something expected because in order to have an existent and running site, the web owner must pay for the hosting service each month .  Of course, one can always pay three months, six months or even a year in advance .  Paying for a longer contract can give a website owner more savings since longer contract web hosting packages are really cheaper compared to paying for the web hosting service individually each month .

Customer Testimonials

It is not enough that prospective website owners look at the price of the hosting .  It is also necessary that he reads around customer or client testimonials so he can get objective and comprehensive opinions on how the service really fares .  This is because any site hosting company can market its own services to a very impressive degree but it does not necessarily mean that the actual service would be the same .  The only way to know if a web host service company is good is by asking other users who have tried their services .  You can find these customer testimonials not just from review sites but also from forums and blogs .

Reliability

Since your website would greatly depend on the web host service, it is necessary that you get reliability from it .  You pay money each month so you would have a good hosting service .  So if your chosen web host company does not deliver to the expected level of reliability (too many down times, for instance), then it is better to change service providers .

Customer Support

Some people think that paying more for a web hosting service is acceptable as long as they offer excellent customer support .  This is because when problems arise during your subscription period, it can be quite a relief to know that you can easily contact someone to fix the said problem .  Never settle for a web host provider who does not answer promptly to your calls, chat messages or even to your email .  Keep in mind that for every minute or hour that your website is down, your goals or business plans can easily be affected .

In the past, when people wanted to earn extra money, they'd go into different kinds of businesses .  A common thing done was the selling different things like encyclopedias, appliances, real estates and insurance policies .  They'd go from one house to another to convince others to buy or call numbers they'd randomly select from telephone directories to make their sales pitch .  Now, this is no longer the way to sell products or services .  People use the internet to sell whatever it is they want to sell .  If you are new at this, here are some recommendations on how to start making money online by selling .

Create a website where you will sell your products .  You can create a site using any of the different blogging platforms on the net .  You can also use a paid domain if you are willing to invest .  The latter usually appears more credible than the former .  People usually do not regard things seen on paid domain as scams .

If you do not have your own product, look for one that you know you can easily sell .  Look for what people now are going crazy about .  For example, cellular phones are popular so you can include them in your choices .  Besides, cellular phones usually come with a lot of accessories so that will add to your potential income .  Do not choose products that very few people look for like wigs or fake eyelashes .  Perishable items are definitely not advisable .

If you do not want to hold the actual products you are selling or you simply do not have enough capital to buy them in advance, you can also consider dropshipping .  This simply means tying up with a company that will allow you to promote or sell products in your site .  With this you do not need to have the actual products in your procession .  You just take orders from clients, forward them to the company and the company will be the ones to deliver the orders .  At the start, you must come up with an agreement with the company regarding the percentage of commission you will get for every sale or the ceiling for the mark up that you will put .

In SEO (Search Engine Optimization) circles, there is a lot of talk about this thing called backlinks .  And if you are new to the world of Internet Marketing (IM) or have just launched your first website, you may not understand exactly what they are or even how crucial they are if you are looking for very high Search Engine rankings on Google .

If your web business will use paid advertising such as AdWords, AdBrite or Yahoo's paid ads, then backlinks are something that you do not need to worry about .  So, let's assume that you are going to be relying on decent organic rankings in Google (they are the free ones) and you need to get your site high up on Page 1 of Google - preferably #1 - but you don't understand this SEO business or using backlinks and your new web business can't yet afford someone doing this mysterious art for you .

In brief, a backlink is a hyperlink (a link that can be clicked on) on a site somewhere else on the web that links back to your website .  In its simplest crudest form, that is a backlink .

Unlike Bing and Yahoo which are more driven by factors on your site (though together they hold less than 25% of the search engine market), Google uses backlinks (on other sites) to figure out if your new site on, say, Siamese fighting fish, should rank highly on their search engine results or not .

Google will consider the so-called anchor text in the link (the word or phrase that is linked) and the authority of the site that the link is coming from to determine how highly or lowly your site should rank .  And when it comes to Google organic search engine results, backlinks are pretty much all you have to influence the ranking success of your site .

Your next question should therefore be, how can I get these backlinks for my new Siamese fighting fish site? Back in the prehistoric age of the Internet, you would approach other webmasters and politely ask for a link on their website and in return you would offer one on your site to theirs .

Today, that's impractical for many reasons .  Firstly, Google hates what it calls reciprocal links where sites link to each other so those links will have virtually no value .  Secondly, you now need link volume to get traction in Google as most sites on Page 1 of Google will usually have a hefty volume of links (think in the hundreds and thousands) if the particular keyword or search term is worth ranking for .

There are some other factors to consider such as whether the links are dofollow or nofollow, the PageRank of the site where the backlink comes from and having backlinks from a big variety of sites .  Contrary to a lot of SEO advice, I have never found the relevancy of a backlink site's topics to my site a factor at all in gaining linking power but consistency of linkbuilding is extremely important .
